The Time Has Come!

Finally, the time has come for the Sunland Park Plaza to officially open! This project has been long awaited by the public, especially the skaters of the area!  The "Plaza" part of the Sunland Sports Complex has been completed for a number of months now, but was never completely opened. Several times, there were "False Grand Openings", where skaters were told to show up, but the city didn't hold their end of the deal.  Notably, this took place on April 30th, where almost 50 skaters showed up to skate, but the gates were closed!  Even the cops were puzzled as to why the park still wasn't open?  Many of the police officers were told that the park would have a "Soft Opening" on April 30th, and then would be open on the weekend from then until the Grand Opening that was to be held in June.  Unfortunately, this never really happened.  There were some soccer games held at the Complex, but they closed the gates afterwards, and the skaters were not allowed to skate.  So, unless the skaters showed up from 8AM to 12PM on Saturday mornings, they were not going to be able to skate, unless they trespassed. Skateboarders should never get in trouble for skateboard at a skatepark... That's what they are for!

However, all of that is over now, (Cheers, applause, tears, shrieks of joy are all encouraged!) because THIS Saturday, the Sunland Park Sports Complex will OFFICIALLY open!!!! Here is the info:

WHEN:  Saturday, June 11th, 2011

TIME: 3PM - Gates Open, 6PM - Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

WHERE:  Sunland Park Sports Complex, 4800 Mc Nutt Hwy, Sunland Park, New Mexico

WHAT:  The Grand Opening of the Sunland Park Sports Complex
This is going to be a rare chance to break in a state of the art facility, originally designed by Rob Dyrdek himself! Chuco Fresh will be on the scenes, passing out some merchandise to the best rippers, so get out there and show us what you've got! We will be setting up a booth, and grilling some food too! Lets make this an event to remember!

See you there Chuco Town!

Check out this video of some local shredders ripping the plaza!

A serious amount of gratitude needs to be extended to the El Paso Skate Park Association and Crooks Skateshops! Without these guys, this would have never become a reality!
