Rosco's Burger Inn: A Chuco Tradition

Taking a step into Rosco Burger is like taking a step back in time.  These guys are so old school, they don't even have a credit card machine.  The building itself is a rock structure that was probably built in the early 1900's.  Even the staff is a fixture of the building; they have been there forever!  But damn, do these guys know how to cook up a burger,  and for good reason: Rosco's has been in the family for three generations.

Rogelio Carrasco opened Rosco's Burger Inn in 1955. He converted an old gas station into a restaurant that became an El Paso staple.  The word on the street is that Rosco's got its name because some of the customers in the early days couldn't pronounce Rogelio's last name.  They would call him "Rosco", and somehow it stuck.  People would come from all around the El Paso area to get a burger from "Rosco", and they still do!  Westsider, Bryan Zuniga, eats a Rosco Burger every chance he gets. When asked why he loves Rosco's so much, this is what he replied, "My dad started taking me to Rosco Burger when I was about four, and ever since, it's been special to me.  There is something about that place that just makes it seem timeless.  Even as everything around us gets bigger and flashier, they just do the same old thing; simple and delicious. There's something comforting about that!"  We hear you Bryan, and we couldn't agree more!

If you have never enjoyed one of these fantastic burgers, you are truly missing out. The slogan on the back of their shirts is, "Seven days without a Rosco's burger makes one weak!" The secret to Rosco's success is their laid back atmosphere, a great staff, and fresh food that always hits the spot!  One top of that, when you eat at Rosco's, you know you are enjoying an El Paso tradition.

Although Rosco's specialties are their infamous burgers, they have some other items on the menu that deserve the same respect!  Not only do they serve the usual burger items (Hamburger, Cheeseburger, Single, Double, Fries, Onion Rings), but also they have some other items such as a Chili Bowl, Caldillo, Grilled Cheese, Hot Dogs, and even Burritos!  No matter what you get at Rosco's, you wont be disappointed!  However, the best part about Rosco's is their special Green Chile Salsa, that you are supposed to smother all over everything, including your burger!

If you haven't been to Rosco's, you need to get out there as soon as you can!  Rosco's is located on 3829 Tompkins in El Paso, Texas, their one and only location!  They are open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10:30 AM until 5:00 PM, or until they run out of meat (they frequently get bought out, and sometimes there is a wait due to their popularity).

In 2008, Rosco's was voted Best Burger in El Paso, in an El Paso Times poll. To see the article, click HERE.

In 2009, Rosco's Burger Inn was voted 43rd Best Burger in Texas, by Texas Monthly. To see the article, click HERE.

See you at Rosco's!

Rosco's has been doing it the same way for years!!!! Some things change, but the main points which made this place famous have not! They use patties that are preformed for them, but never do they use frozen meat! It is ALWAYS fresh!! Onion rings and fries are good as well. The bowl of chili is also amazing! Although, different places have popped up trying to serve the same burger, these "other" burgers will never match-up to a Rosco burger!!!
